About Us
Since its inception, Fleur De Lys FC has grown from modest beginnings into one of the largest and most respected clubs in the Caerphilly area.
With facilities at both Trelyn Park and The Ynys in Fleur De Lys, the club has established a strong development pathway that promotes excellence through quality coaching, qualified first aiders, safeguarding officers, and a dedicated team of volunteers.
We proudly support young people in the community — starting as early as age 2 — all the way through to our senior and development squads.
Our Story
Our journey began in 2000, when founder Jason Needs brought together a passionate group of U7 boys eager to play the game they loved — forming Fleur De Lys’ very first junior football team.
That first team joined the Islwyn Junior League, and from there, a legacy was born — the rest, as they say, is history.
The club originally donned Argentinian sky blue and white stripes before later transitioning to the now-familiar black and white stripes.
As time went on, the club began to take shape and flourish. Our junior section steadily grew, and today we’re proud to offer football opportunities from U4s all the way through to our senior teams.
In 2021, it felt only right that senior football returned to the village — led by Adam Needs, a player from that very first junior team back in 2000. A full-circle moment for Fleur De Lys FC
In 2023 the club welcomed local legend Mark Giffard to join forces with Adam Needs.
With Mark’s wealth of experience, Adam’s drive and passion, and a wave of talented youth players coming through the ranks, the past two seasons have marked a real turning point — with the seniors doing the double and winning the North Gwent Premier league and the GCFA Intermediate Cup in 2024/2025 season.

In the 2024/2025 season also saw the introduction of a development senior team, helping bridge the gap between youth and senior football — a crucial step in supporting our long-term growth and player progression.
It’s fair to say that the club is now stronger than ever. With over 300 registered players, the continued commitment of our dedicated chairman and secretary, Nathan Lloyd and Richard Morgan, and a focused, hard-working committee — we’re building something truly special. Long-time sponsor Nathan Jenkins of Valley Water and The Valley Tavern has also played a key role in supporting our journey.
As we look ahead to the new season at our newly developed home, Ynys Park, our focus remains clear: to deliver the highest quality football experience for young people, uphold our strong reputation within the community and beyond, and continue to grow the Fleur De Lys FC brand.
As we proudly celebrate our 25th anniversary, we reflect on how far we’ve come — and look forward to all the exciting chapters still to be written.
The future’s bright. The future is black and white
